This is a painting of a few of the islands and rock outcroppings near Pelican, Alaska. I attempted to portray the rich luminous landscape by featuring a watercolor technique called granulation which is inherent in certain pigments. I used various combinations of light red, French ultramarine blue, burnt sienna and cobalt blue to achieve the granulation in the sky, land and water. The heavier, coarser particles separate out from the smoother particles, creating the effect. |
