| I painted this scene from a photo taken of a cove on the Pend Oreille River near Ione, WA. I was in the process of doing a plein air study (on site) when the sheets of rain in the distance began heading my way. I took a number of photographs, completed my small painting, gathered my supplies and made it to my car just in the nick of time. I sat transfixed, watching the storm wash over me. Painting out of doors allows me to become immersed in the experience, and doing small on site studies helps me recall the light effects that I try to capture in larger studio paintings.
